Notification of Sewer Investigation Work
Beginning the week of October 20, 2025, representatives from Duke’s Root Control, Inc. (“Duke’s”) will be working in the Borough of Deal to evaluate the condition of the Borough’s sanitary sewer system and private sewer service laterals. Crews will be conducting smoke testing, which is a standard method used to identify defects, leaks, and/or cross-connections within the sewer system.
Smoke testing involves pressurizing the sewer mains with non-toxic, non-flammable liquid smoke to identify areas where repairs may be needed. Residents may see smoke venting from manholes or sewer vents. This is normal and not a cause for concern. The smoke used in testing is harmless to humans, pets, and property.
Property owners will receive a pink door tag from Duke’s two to three days prior to testing with additional details and preparation tips. You do not need to be home during the testing.
This work may require crews to access manholes located in the public Right-of-Way and within utility easements, including some on private property within easement areas. There will be no disruption of sewer service during this process.
All Duke’s representatives will be in company uniforms and carry official identification badges.
For additional information, please contact Duke’s Root Control, Inc. at (888) 620-0010, or the Borough of Deal Department of Public Works at (848) 288-1815.
Thank you.
